The Painter in the Works of Peter Handke and Claude Simon: Heuristic Use of Detail
Type de matériel :
57
This paper will provide an analysis of the character of the painter in Peter Handke’s Mein Jahr in der Niemandsbucht and in Claude Simon’s Le Jardin des Plantes. In spite of their differences, both authors reflect upon their own poetics through painting, conceived as an aesthetic as well as an ethical model. The art of the painter provides a new way of understanding reality, for it focuses on the details of the perceptible and, by doing so, highlights and deepens our link to the world. But this focusing on the details also questions the limits of representation, and challenges the power of art and writing.
