“Elicitation” and meaning analysis interviewing: A privileged route to subjective professional development logic in research and training

This paper looks at the “elicitation interview” (Vermersch, 1994) and “meaning analysis” (Faingold, 1998) techniques as theoretical approaches of activity with a focus on “subjective experience of a given situation, i.e. what people do and the way they experience what they do” (Mouchet, 2016). It is based on a doctoral research using a combination of “elicitation” and meaning analysis interviews on the social work field (Tradif Bourgoin, 2017). This article aims at identifying why this instrument opens a promising route to understanding transformative professional development from the subjective point of view.
