Reflections on the 5-C color Nutritional Information System

The five color (5-C) nutritional information labelling system, designed to be displayed on the front of food packaging, is a useful tool for differentiating the nutritional quality of food sold in France. Scientific studies have shown it to be well received and understood by consumers. Its design ensures good compliance of the system to nutritional benchmarks set out by the Plan national nutrition santé [National Nutrition and Health Program]. The 5-C system thus appears to be a transparent way of helping consumers choose products of better nutritional quality.
