Parallel between Family System and Professional System and Placement in Institution: How Can It Support Change? Narrative of a Treatment

This article addresses the parallel between the family and the professional systems in relation to a child’s institutionalization. Through the analysis of a situation, in collaboration with a research group of the Catholic University of Louvain, we identify the phenomenon and provide feedback to the professional system, asking them to adjust the dynamic in their own interactions before asking for the same adjustment at the family level. We illustrate the back and forth between the relational patterns in the professional system and in the family system, the connection with their mental representations, their behavior, and the atmosphere of the basic contact. We use the models of “rites of passage” and “human environment” to analyze the child’s time in the institution.
