The analysis of preventive actions at school in France brings up the link between government and the inivisibilisation of social control. There are three types of preventive actions: first, making secondary school students identify with a male reference figure; secondly, turning them into “prevention actors”; finally, “transmitting knowledge”. In these three types, prevention agents affirm forming self awareness of the youths and deny attempt to have a control over their actions. Thus, prevention agents can play their temperance role of “street level bureaucrats” while prevention actions are depreciated in their bundle of tasks. Such invisibilisation of social control is made possible thanks to the beliefs and the various habitus of both the prevention agents and the secondary school students.
