This article aims to demonstrate the relevance of the experiential knowledge of service users in the academic training of future social workers, specifically with regard to an empowering dialogue between the social worker and the user. This article describes the Swedish “gap mending” approach, where users are partners in social work education. The authors present the key aspects of the relational dimension highlighted by users in a Norwegian study based on the anti-oppressive approach. The authors link this to the literature review on the value of experiential knowledge in the context of works carried out at the School of Social Work at the Université de Sherbrooke, aimed at engaging users in the training of social work students.
