Freud est un écrivain de langue allemande. En France, le surréalisme est un signe avant-coureur et un « révélateur » subconscient après coup pour la psychanalyse de son héritage « romantique ». Freud s’est arrêté chez Goethe, au « niveau de la langue » du classico-romantisme allemand. La théorie de l’Œdipe freudien en apporte la preuve « scientifique ». Hölderlin ouvre cependant à l’analyse d’un complexe d’Œdipe « inconscient » plus infini.
