Retracer l’histoire des AVS s’apparente à retracer celle de la Fnaseph. C’est une gageure parce qu’elle est œuvre collective, quand bien même ce travail de rédaction est-il confié à ses premiers militants. Autant de militants, autant d’histoires. Alors, en voici une, retracée cependant à six mains. Il s’agit de comprendre comment s’est développé, au fil des années, le concept d’aide humaine à l’école puis d’accompagnement scolaire et comment la fédération d’associations nationales et locales chemine pour tenter de faire reconnaître ce métier d’accompagnant, gage de qualité.

Writing the history of educational auxiliaries means writing a history of the Fnaseph (National Federation for Educational Support for Pupils with a Disability). This is a challenge because this is a collective history, even though the drafting was entrusted to the organization’s first activists. The Fnaseph has as many stories as it has members. So here is one of these stories, written by six authors. The point is to understand how the concept of human aid to the school developed over the years, and then the concept of educational support as well as how the Federation of national and local associations sought to gain recognition for the profession of support-provider, a guarantee of quality.
