Introduction: Promoting sexual health among adolescents is central to public health policy. This study reports on the creation a collaborative space involving five field workers from different organizations (family planning, Maison des Adolescents, Atelier Santé Ville), two high-school students studying health and social sciences, and two researchers in social and health psychology. Method: The aim was to implement a participatory evaluation of sexual health interventions conducted in schools with local middle school students. This collaborative methodology sought to bring together different perspectives in order to co-construct an evaluation process grounded in dialogue and shared reflection. We focused on stakeholders’ experiences regarding their participation and involvement in the work undertaken. A qualitative analysis was conducted with group members to assess the contributions and limitations of this type of approach for evaluating local initiatives. Results: The working group was perceived as a unifying space for shared experiences and reflections, and participation provided professional enrichment. The experience of participation enabled stakeholders to “see” differently the subjects on which they work. The limited participation of the high-school female students raises questions about their integration and the operationalization of participatory evaluation principles. Discussion: This study highlights the importance of fostering a dialogue between the “research world” and the “practical world” to account for local realities and facilitate the appropriation of generated knowledge. By placing stakeholders, partners, and beneficiaries at the center of the process, the study is grounded in an interdisciplinary, democratic, and participatory approach.
