Implementing the attachment video-feedback intervention (AVI) in child protection: Building bridges between research and practice

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2025. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Decades of research show that children assisted by child protection services are at increased risk of mental health problems. A secure parent-child relationship is crucial for their development and resilience. However, practitioners working with these families often lack access to the latest scientific research and evidence-based interventions. To overcome this, an action research project has led to the implementation of the attachment video-feedback intervention (AVI) in France. This short-term intervention is based on attachment theory and uses video feedback. Scientific studies have shown its effectiveness and it has been well received by practitioners. AVI is notable for its emphasis on parental strengths and its use of observations of the parent-child relationship to inform intervention planning. It uses video feedback to reinforce empathetic parental behaviors. This non-judgmental, collaborative method builds trust and provides a secure base for parents to explore their relationship with their child. AVI has been implemented in Quebec and its use in France is promising.
